Best Croissants (and Insurance Companies)
I am equally picky about croissants and insurance companies.
Imagine sinking your teeth into the ultimate croissant. Its golden-brown, flaky exterior gives way with a satisfying shatter, revealing layers of buttery perfection inside. Each bite delivers a symphony of textures, from the crisp outer shell to the delicate, melt-in-your-mouth interior. This is not just any croissant — it's a testament to the art of pastry making at its finest. Creating great laminated dough is a craft that requires precision, patience, and skill.
Seattle's croissant scene is a true delight for pastry lovers. My home city boasts several top-notch bakeries that have perfected the art of making delicate buttery pastries with the perfect crumb. Sea Wolf Bakers* is well known, and Coyle’s Bakeshop* is a delightful blend of French and English inspiration. Their delicate cream scones and heavenly cardamom rolls are an absolute must-try. And enjoy a one of a kind croissant pretzel (‘cretzel’) under the warm glow of a large crystal chandelier. For the adventurous soul looking to pick up a new skill, start with this step-by-step video on making homemade laminated dough.
My ultimate favorites are Temple Pastries for the splurge, and believe it or not, PCC Market’s mini croissants for the budget-conscious.
Temple’s croissant has an open, airy honeycomb structure that is soft and tender without being doughy, and most importantly – a thin crisp crust with delicate shatter, sending tiny golden flakes cascading. It's a beautiful mess, one that makes even the most etiquette-conscious eater forget about manners and relish the experience.
PCC Market’s box of 8 mini croissants are best frozen the day they are made (check the bottom of the box!). Perfect for those lazy mornings when we want to cozy up indoors listening to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and savor buttery perfection. Straight from the freezer, place them on a parchment lined sheet tray, into a cold oven to preheat to 350°F, and set the timer for 15 minutes. My nine-year-old daughter follows these instructions posted near the freezer to a T and makes her own breakfast. Perfectly crisp on the outside, pillowy on the inside – these mini buttery delights go well with homemade Seville orange marmalade.
To finish, and as important, are the best insurance companies in 2025. No need to take my word for it, check out Forbes America’s Best Insurance Companies for 2025. I’d love to hear your thoughts and your favorite pastry places — Let’s explore life and croissants together.
*With a grain of salt: I may be slightly biased, having attended pastry school with Kit Schumann and worked with Rachel Coyle. ;)
